Research Methodology Seminar

This seminar draws on three studies undertaken by
Dr Angela Cotter to illustrate the versatility of action
research as an approach. It will give insight into the
challenges and rewards of working on first, second and third person
action research through her experience.
The workshop will:
- Enable participants to gain knowledge about action research and
its application to practice-based research
Inform participants about the different ways that action
research can be conducted in different disciplines and about
practical aspects such as the stages of action research
Dr Angel Cotter
Dr Angela Cotter is Programme
Director of the MPhil/PhD in Psychotherapy
and Counselling Studies at Regents College. Angela has a
background in nursing prior to training as a psychotherapist and
has worked in health services research in many settings. This
seminar will consider her work on a Department of Health funded
project about the discharge of older people from hospital into the
community, a Lottery funded project looking at creative arts as a
way of enhancing communication between elders with dementia and the
staff who work with them and her recent research into ‘wounded
healers’, those who have experienced both giving and receiving
health or social care.
