Research Methodology Seminar

Thursday, 18 June 2009,
5.30pm -7.00pm at Regents College

This seminar draws on three studies undertaken by Dr Angela Cotter to illustrate the versatility of action research as an approach.  It will give insight into the challenges and rewards of working on first, second and third person action research through her experience.

The workshop will:

  • Enable participants to gain knowledge about action research and its application to practice-based research

Inform participants about the different ways that action research can be conducted in different disciplines and about practical aspects such as the stages of action research

Dr Angel Cotter

Dr Angela Cotter is Programme Director of the MPhil/PhD in Psychotherapy and Counselling Studies at Regents College.  Angela has a background in nursing prior to training as a psychotherapist and has worked in health services research in many settings.  This seminar will consider her work on a Department of Health funded project about the discharge of older people from hospital into the community, a Lottery funded project looking at creative arts as a way of enhancing communication between elders with dementia and the staff who work with them and her recent research into ‘wounded healers’, those who have experienced both giving and receiving health or social care.
