Why Study at SPCP?
The School's international reputation
as a leading psychotherapeutic training institution
The School has a reputation for innovation and the promotion of
critical thinking in the field; members of its faculty are invited
to speak throughout the world, and the student body is drawn to the
School's training programmes from across Europe, North America,
Japan and Australia, as well as the UK.
Training leads to eligibility for
professional accreditation
As an accrediting body, the School's courses lead to
professional registration with the UKCP (United
Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy); our courses contribute to
eligibility for individual accreditation by the BACP (British
Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy); the Professional
Doctorate in Counselling Psychology is validated by the BPS
(British Psychological Society), leading to eligibility for
Chartered Counselling Psychologist status.
A permanent faculty of experienced practitioners committed to
academic excellence
Members of the School's permanent faculty possess a breadth and
diversity of professional experience and have been at the forefront
of developing innovative teaching modalities and programmes. We
encourage academic rigour while honouring the experiential and
interpersonal encounter and foster professional competence to meet
the challenges of a rapidly evolving field.
Excellent campus facilities in attractive central location
The School is part of Regent's College. Students have
access to a considerable stock of psychotherapy and counselling
texts within the Tate Library.
Regent's College also has comprehensive IT
facilities, as well as a refectory, bar,
bookshop and gym . All of this is surrounded by the glories of
Regent's Park, in central London, within easy reach of under- and
overground stations, and within easy walking distance of London's
West End.
Diversity of disciplines and approaches - our non-doctrinaire
'Integrative attitude'
Rather than promote a single 'model' of psychotherapy or
counselling, the School presents students and trainees with a
wide spectrum of the major theoretical
perspectives through which they are encouraged to develop
their own understanding and informed choice of theoretical
orientation for professional practice.
Our capacity to facilitate your training from Foundation to PhD
level
The School's experience in delivering foundation training is
second to none: a high proportion of candidates for our courses
have heard of us via personal recommendation. Our MA in
Psychotherapy and Counselling was the first in the UK;
the Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology,
which had its first intake in 1999, provides a unique specialist
training; the School was the first UK institution to offer a PhD in
Psychotherapy and Counselling.
A 'safe' but challenging learning environment
Class and group sizes are carefully limited according to the
specific learning activity; we take care to provide a carefully
structured human 'environment' to facilitate the personally
challenging nature of the learning required of professional
training in this field.
