MA Psychotherapy & Counselling

For direct entry to the MA in Psychotherapy & Counselling, the requirements are as follows:

  • To have completed an undergraduate degree in any discipline;
  • To have successfully completed a Foundation course in Psychotherapy and Counselling of about 120 hours. Please note that this requirement is NOT waived if you have an undergraduate degree in Psychology;
  • To have experience working for at least SIX MONTHS professionally in an allied area (such as nursing, social work, teaching, human resources, mediation or similar) or in a voluntary capacity seeing individuals in a 'helping' or 'supportive' context (such as befriending, mentoring, telephone helpline working or similar). Please note that voluntary work must have been accrued in an institutional/agency setting.
  • To have sufficient maturity and life experience post-full-time education to be capable of undertaking clinical training;

It is also desirable for applicants:

  • To have completed the Foundation at SPCP;
  • To have experience of personal therapy.
