Biography

Dr Petter is a qualified Psychologist and Psychotherapist who has for many years worked in severe and enduring mental health services in both NHS and for private sector psychiatric providers. His specialism includes psychosis, severe trauma and anxiety disorders, as well as psychosexual phenomena, with a special interest in the role of shame in the formation of psychopathology.


He currently works for the NHS East London Foundation Trust running a psychology service on a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, in the private sector as an individual and couples therapist at PPCS Ltd and in his own private practice, as well as providing organisational consultancy on stress reduction within systems. He is a visiting lecturer in both Counselling and Clinical Psychology, with a special focus on psychopathology and research.

Course Development

Dr Petter was for many years actively involved in the development of the DCounsPsy.

Dr Petter has supervised various doctoral research projects to completion and also acts as an internal examiner.

  • projection and triangulation of powerlessness within micro and macro systems
