Biography

After completing a BA in Psychology at Antioch College in Ohio and working in therapeutic communities for mentally ill adults and emotionally disturbed children in New England and San Francisco, Leila came to this country to train at Regent's College.  She was keen to study with Emmy Van Deurzen, having read her book, Existential Counselling in Practice.  She left just as she began, however she was fortunate enough to be taught by Anthony Stadlen, Freddie Strasser and Ernesto Spinelli.  Her Master's dissertation on narcissism was passed with distinction.

Leila carried on working in a therapeutic community for personality disordered women with self-harming behaviour.  Leila also began working in the NHS doing psychotherapy with psychiatric patients, CAT and working with acutely ill medical patients and their families at King's College Hospital.  She also worked at Women & Health and Westminster Association for Mental Health.  She went on to focus on work with socially deprived young people as a supervisor at Youthreach Greenwich and then to work with children in lone parent families at Friendship Works.

Leila returned to Regent's College to supervise and lecture on the MA, ADEP and DCounsPsy Programmes in 2002. Since then, she has enjoyed being part of the ongoing development and transformation of the School.  She currently offers long term psychotherapy and assessment at the Wimbledon Guild and in private practice in South West London.
